How to Prepare Your Caps & Lids
Follow these simple steps to make sure caps and lids get recycled properly

Clean Thoroughly
Remove all food, liquid, or product residue. Caps need to be completely clean for processing.

Dry Completely
Make sure caps and lids are completely dry before bringing them in. Wet items can cause problems.

Separate Materials
Keep plastic caps separate from metal caps. Different materials need different processing.

Bring in Containers
Put caps in bags or containers to prevent them scattering. Small items are easy to lose!
Free Collection Point
Bottle cap and lid collection is completely free. We’re helping divert valuable materials from landfill.

Environmental Impact
Each year, around 16,000 tonnes of plastic and metal caps and lids – roughly 900 truckloads – are discarded in New Zealand. With kerbside recycling changes, these valuable materials were heading to landfill.
